This week, at Google I/O, the company has revealed that it intends to expand its efforts into a lot of new areas, mainly with the help of some sort of Android version.
The company has listed off a new Android for mobile devices and laptops, for cars, set top boxes, wearable devices, and more. Considering that Google has also expanded its reach into the medical field, Internet services and into the home automation efforts, we could easily say that in no time, Google will be everywhere that matters.
Based on this, the Joy of Tech webcomic has created a new strip that stresses just how cool and terrifying at the same time such a thing can be.
Sure, Google’s plans for the future are pretty cool and the fact that so many areas will have a common platform has its advantages, but at the same time, this is just scary. The thought of having a single company get access to all the data about you comes with plenty of privacy concerns.
The characters in the recent webcomic discuss how cool Google’s plans are, with the company “merging into every aspect of your life.” But the two end up calling up a travel agency and asking for a one-way ticket to a remote island with no Internet access that hasn’t even been visited by Google’s Street View team; basically, a location that Google doesn’t have access to just yet.
Of course, they should probably consider Project Loon and how Google intends to bring Internet to all remote areas that are not connected to the Internet…
